I'm afraid I'm stuck with it for the time-being. Seeing as we have a salon, I would've liked to trim a bit of my hair with how it's grown out, but I don't really want to look in a mirror right now.
Probably more fitting than anyone would expect, and more than I like.
[ There's almost a hitn of cruel amusement in it, at the cost of himself. But anyway, he shakes his head. ]
I've hardly had one myself, my hair's getting all in my eyes. I'll have to save mine for later, but I can do yours. It won't be a proper barber's work, but it's something.
[ rondo frowns even deeper at that, now very very pointedly looking away from the hidden bnnuy. he simply will not perceive. they can start to head into the salon. ]
... If you wouldn't mind...? It's, um. Difficult. Just as a fair warning. [ his hair is impossible. ] And then... if there's anything I can do to help with yours once your curse wears off, I'm happy to!
No, Heathcote did it for us when we still lived together.
[ spoiled rich kid with a deeply competent butler. also he will be a good dog for the groomer  ]
And her hair is actually a lot shorter than mine... she used to put ribbons and things in my hair when we were much younger, though, once I started growing it out.
[ he will obediently do so! and reaches up to take out his hair ribbon - red today!
his hair is really just so dumb. like the top half of it is really fluffy and curly and sticks out at approximately forty different angles, and then underneath, in the back, it's long and unruly and makes it about midway down his back. his two front pieces that frame his face puff out near his ears and curl out like the sides of a sparkle emoji. it is just a mullet and a half over here.
rondo looks at himself in the mirror, and laughs a little, almost sheepish. ]
... I started growing it long after I met Sir Sazantos. [ he will briefly memshare - just the flash of a tall, strong figure's back and shoulders from a lower angle, lit up by a flare of holy blue light, wielding a sword. ] Mine never looked as nice as his did, but... I wanted to be just like him.
I think Cordelia keeps hers short because hers gets curly, too. So... it's easier to manage, or something...? I don't really know.
Wavier hair requires a different sort of care from straight. I learned this from doing Elise's. Hers was straight, while mine can tend to form a bit of a wave or curl if I leave it unbrushed.
[ Brushing out Rondo's hair and detangling... his method is gentle but firm. ]
Yours can look nice, just not the exact same... unless you apply some straightening stuff, but that's also a lot of work for this amount of hair.
[ every time he brushes out a curl it sproings back into a new and creative position. sproing. it's also all different lengths up there.
rondo makes a little understanding noise. there's a little flicker of fondness in his emotions, something warm and soft, but he keeps it to himself. ]
I see... [ this is all new information for rondo. there's stuff you can put in there to make it straight? amazing... he thinks about sazantos' luscious hair again.... and then nods a little bit, trying not to move too much to disturb daan's hard work. yes that makes sense. ]
I pretty much just... tie it up and leave? [ has he ever even brushed his hair. ] Just as long as it's out of the way so I don't get it in my eyes when I'm training.
Cloud said his hair used to look just like mine. Can you believe that? But when he enlisted, he had to cut his, too. For us, no one really cares about that kind of thing... and besides, I thought Sir Sazantos looked amazing.
[ and still does! sometimes you meet someone when you're 14 and it changes your entire world view in like 45 different ways.
he looks thoughtful for a minute, trying to imagine what he'd look like with straight hair. cordelia's is nice and normal, so maybe....]
... Well... we could try to see if it'll go straight, right? Maybe it can twist around like his did... [ sure! why not! let's try straight! ] I trust you, Daan.
[ Chocobo-ass. Anyway, trimming off dead ends, evening out length, things like that. Also guess who just learned the hair iron has been around for a lot longer than I thought, it means Daan can use one. ]
[ his emotions are like weirdly preening for a second, about looking like cloud. he thinks cloud is SO cool. ]
Heh. [ YEAH!!!! HE LOOKS LIKE CLOUD!!!!!!
anyway. he nods a teeny bit to that, trying not to disturb him, and holds very still! the warm is nice. i also forgot to mention he's in his spiffy new uniform today. ]
I never would have even thought of doing something like this. Then again, washing your hair has felt like a luxury since I came here, so... it's nice.
Not an amenity you get often as a soldier? It was also rare when I was serving, not that I expected to exactly have estate comforts around the front lines. Still, I was drafted into it temporarily, it wasn't my entire career...
Mm... I probably get it more than the other Knights do. I still stay in the garrison with the others when I'm not out on missions with Sir Sazantos, but I'm pretty high ranked, now.
[ sometimes you hit the highest possible knights ranking when you were like 20 years old because, once again, you met some guy and it changed your entire life ]
When we're out on missions, we generally get better lodging because of the title of the Flameguard - plus it was only the two of us. The churches always welcome us, of course, but we're able to usually get into inns and things like that for free, and they also have hot baths.
But, it's still not all the time. Not like it is here. And it doesn't just come out of a tap on the wall, either! And it definitely doesn't just come out warm without a fire involved...
[ he nods... his emotions do a little flutter of something very happy, something proud, something a little nervous. ]
It is. [ one hand comes up, and he lightly touches the insignia on his chest, on the uniform. ] As a whole, the Knights Ardante are generally well respected - we often help guard the populace from monsters, and are the only organization that is not specifically devoted to a certain nation or area of the continent. But... the Flameguard is a little different. He's just one person, but he is tasked with protecting the continent from the most harrowing of dangers. He is the only knight in the Order who is capable of wielding the Sacred Flame itself.
I chose to follow him specifically - I'd been working hard to become his apprentice since I was barely a teen.
[ a brief flicker of sadness melds into his emotions there, something soft and nostalgic, something despairing, turning it more bittersweet. ]
And... maybe not a bit much. They're nice - it's something I wish I could bring home! I'm sure my sister would love it. And... despite everything, I feel lucky that I've gotten to experience so many wonderful things here I might never have in Orsterra, too.
... People can change unexpectedly. Or even lie. It's hardly your fault -- nobody can blame you for wanting to see the good in things, people most of all.
[ Framing hair, strands carefully around Rondo's face, his touch cold in comparison to warm iron and freshly straightened hair. Once he's done all that, he'll start braiding it. this part he's even better at, giving him a nice event braid. ]
[ oh! the touch is a little surprising, but it's not bad - he blinks a little but lets him frame, holding very still.
and there's a soft sigh to that, as he looks into the mirror. ]
...Yes. I think... in being here, many people have tried to impart that in me. I think some part of me will always blame myself, for not noticing how badly he was hurting, but... I tried everything I could, and he never let me in.
[ it's a melancholy, strange feeling, acceptance. one maybe he'll get close to, or at least one that he's closer to than he ever was. ] But... I think I'll grieve him for a long time.
briefly, little sparkles appear by his head as he looks at his reflection, reaching up to very gently touch the end of the braid. sitting here, in his flameguard uniform, hair in a braid with a red ribbon - it is giving him a lot of Emotions TM, and he's stunned silent for a moment by the sight.
rondo swallows, hard, and his face breaks into a smile. ]
...Thank you, Daan. [ genuine - effusively warm. he tilts his head up to look at him, curiously... ] ... Are they gone?
[ You know what fuck it sure let's just say this pc is in the evening and his bnuuy has disappeared. His hood lies fairly flat now. Daan reaches up to pat his own head, then feel under the hood. ]
I guess so. Time flies by when you're doing someone's hair?
