It's real quaint. Nothing can go wrong in a farm unless you mess with the animals and I feel you'd sooner kick your own arse than upset anyone on purpose.
[Erin inwardly makes bets with herself, betting Rondo will spend approximately three days around here enjoying the cozy town atmosphere before stepping back into Scawwy]
Childhood things. I grew in a farm. We didn't have lots of animals but little things like having a dog lazing around and the nice air remind me of it.
[ the first part just gets a laugh and a sheepish smile, because...yeah. yeah, he would, probably. ]
Honestly, it's nice just to be out of the village for a little while. [ it's so ominous and gloomy there... it feels warmer, here, even if there's that weird temple in the middle of it all? its fine. whatever there are ponies. ] You're right about the air being nice, too. It's comforting. And the ocean is here!
[ as for the rest, it's nice to hear a little Erin Lore. rondo nods to that, too...! that kind of makes sense. ]
Did you have a big family...? What kind of animals did you have? It sounds really nice.
A couple cows, really. It was just my sister and my parents, with a small farm in the outskirts of town. Pretty boring when you think about it.
But it was nice, spending time with my sister. We'd sit outside and she'd brush my hair. Simpler times.
[You know how some people are sometimes: you don't know what you got until you lose it. She sure doesn't live in any place like that farm anymore. She misses that now]
You must know how that feels like, to just want to go back to simple things. Or were you already waving swords when you were in nappies?
The most sincere sign of sibling love is admitting the other one is far smarter than you are. Nice.
[Not that Erin would ever say such things about her sister becuase it's objectively untrue, Erin is the cleverer one, hah. Not that the other is dumb, she just is too silly for her own good]
It's just the truth! She really is. She's levelheaded and smart, kindhearted, mature, good with people... She used to be really shy when we were younger, but she's grown a lot. Even though we really only get to communicate over letters, nowadays, it's still really obvious. I couldn't be more proud of her.
[ rondo LOVES his sister. ]
What's yours like, Miss Erin? Are you older or younger?
You'll be see her in person again someday. Take it from me, sometimes things reunite you when you least expect it.
[Speaking from experience there, yeah]
Younger. Shelley is a whole eleven years older than I am.
[More or less. It's hard to tell when ages are nebulous even though the characters have grown up throughout the years, but there's no doubt the age difference is of at least seven years]
[Erin winces a little. She loves her sister dearly, but there are things she doesn't love about her -- and it's Shelley's main traits]
Shelley's a wacky mess, a living circus, pretty much. But must be a very charming one, because she can get a wide circle of people around her. She's a children's book author and got filthy rich with that, somehow.
If she were here I'm sure she'd have dragged half of the town into some wild plan that'd cause an explosion at the barn. Cor, her middle name literally is Endeavour.
[Yeah, Erin took all the serious traits of the family. Shelley didn't. Probably is influenced by how Shelley is one of the longlasting main characters of many of the canons' stories, so she has been involved in a lot of shenanigans]
[I have played Shelley in multiple murdergames, including the first time ever I was a culprit. I'm fond of her because of that too, for the memories]
Yeah. I followed her steps, pretty much. Ages ago she used to be a reporter in the same newspaper I now direct. Guess writing is in the blood.
[Erin points at herself with her thumb]
But I'm not going to write for little tykes like she does. Can you imagine me, writing sweet things like that?
[Too bitter and jaded to write nice things]
By the way, about your sister. Planning on telling her about all this, once you go back?
[She'd want to know why her brother went incommunicado for a while, Erin is sure. Despite everything, she's not going to be unkind enough as to tell to someone to their face that there's a chance they won't get out of this situation alive. Better aim for a little bit of positive thinking there]
[ he laughs, thinking about erin writing a kid's story... ]
I don't know, I could see it! It just might have to be for older kids. [ he jokes back a little, thinking about it. thinking about all of the wonderful stories that were read to him when he was little - thinking about holding his sister in his lap and reading children's books to her too. he looks soft and nostalgic at the idea, though... it fades, at the last bit. ]
Mm... [ god. ] ...probably not. I don't want her to worry. Miss Aerith suggested that I write her letters while I'm here, though, so I'll probably do that, and just not send them.
Things at home are already stressful enough. I'd be worried she'd pack up her things and ride straight to Flamesgrace if she knew!
Hey - Miss Erin, you should write some, too! There has to be some news around here to report that isn't just... you know, the whole cult thing. Right? Maybe? I know that article someone posted last week was kind of mean, but... it might be nice to have something to lift people's spirits. So... something...not like that. Maybe another poll...

[ he gives the horse a pat. ] We do a lot of our traveling by horseback, when we have to go really long distances.
[ probably. i am making this up but it makes sense to me. anyway. ]
What nice things? I think here, we can use as many of those as possible.

[ rondo's smile changes a little - it softens to something nostalgic to match erin's description. ]
I do understand what you mean. [ ... ] I have a sister, too - she's younger than me. I miss her a lot.

[Erin, he didn't say exactly that, really, stop imagining a very baby Rondo practicing with a sword against a hay mannequin.
Aw, cute icon!]
You're close to your sister, Rondo?
no subject
ah... he smiles even more at that, fondly. ]
I haven't seen her in a while, now, but she's very, very dear to me. [ HIS BABY SISTER!!! ] Her name's Cordelia.

She a knight like you?

Haha, no, no. No, she's the lady of the House Ravus. She's really amazing - she's a thousand times smarter than I could ever be.

[You put that 'who is the saddest person in town' last week, didn't you, Rondo. Erin has been sure for a while you did]
