[ rondo's finishing out a form when iwatooshi speaks up - he's breathing lightly, gripping the hilt, and he looks over his shoulder, letting out an exhale. ]
... Hah....
[ he looks down at the sword - in all of its color, its elegant shapes. ] Is it that obvious...?
[ across his back, the phrase in ink curls over his shoulderblades. failing. ]
I wouldn't say obvious. I am a little more familiar with swordsmanship than most humans, after all.
[ only a little, though, because he's still a polearm. and though he does see that word, he doesn't comment on it, instead settling with his naginata perpendicular to the ground with arms loosely crossed at the wrists as he holds onto it. ]
[ oh... he perks a little at the compliment, and bows, immediately - it takes some of the weight on his shoulders that is clearly related to this blade right off of them. ]
Thank you, sir! [ praise...! enthusiastically: ] - If you have any tips or suggestions you are willing to share, I'd be more than happy to hear them, sir!
[ "sir," huh? he looks so amused at that but he sees no reason to correct it. rondo really is quite the respectful soldier! ]
Hmmm. If I had to guess, the shape and weight of it is different from what you're used to? It's different from those I've seen at home, too.
[ this is so much bulkier than a katana help. ]
It looks heavier toward the tip of the blade, so if you brace your stance more, you may be able to put more power into your strikes. [ glances up at his own weapon, thoughtful. ] It may not be entirely unlike my naginata in that way, if on a smaller scale.
[ rondo nods, gaze flicking downwards to the sword itself as he turns it in his hand. ]
...Yes. This... it is a holy relic of the Church of the Sacred Flame, but it was wielded by... by someone very important to me. It's also changed shapes, recently, so... I couldn't even wield it the way I would, normally.
[ in... a lot of ways. this sword is much different than the sword he saw that important person wield. he turns his wrist a little to look at it, the strange way the light seems to catch on the sword, making it look partially pink, partially blue.
but, oh! the advice!!! this is really helpful - rondo's eyes widen a little and he nods, returning his attention to the blade itself and then adjusting his stance to brace properly. he gives a swing - a hyah! noise included, and then blinks. ]
Oh... that already feels a little better. [ !! ] Your... that's - wait, that's your weapon -- is that... [ he pauses what's the right way to say this ] ... is that...you..., Sir Iwatooshi...?
It changed shape? [ glances at it in concern. ] I've heard of blades being cut down or reforged, but not changing on their own.
[ wild. would that hurt, he wonders?
but there rondo goes again! ah, youth. he loves it, and smiles fondly. ]
That's right. This naginata is me. [ iwa adjusts his stance, dropping his left hand to instead hold the nagi a little forward in his right. ] It's a relief to have it back. I'm sure you feel the same way about your sword.
[ rondo trots right over to come investigate the naginata...! his eyes flick from iwatooshi to the weapon, back and forth... he's trying to reconcile the two together, just slightly sparkly eyed as he moves to put the sword back into its sheath. ]
Mm. It's a magic thing, I think... I don't really know exactly how it happened.
[ at least not the particulars. but. ah, iwatooshi says that and rondo's expression shifts, looking a little sad. ]
...yes, something like that. [ yeah. ] I doubt that this place will be very safe, so I am quite happy to have a weapon to protect others with at least.
Magic works in unpredictable ways. I only hope that it will benefit you both, instead of hurting you somehow.
[ he doesn't understand how these things work.
ah, but he sees that, and offers a sympathetic look to rondo. ]
I understand, if it's complicated. [ there is something here that he's missing, he thinks, but if rondo doesn't want to talk about it, he will respect that. ] And wanting to protect the others, too. At least you will not be alone in that. There are plenty of us who plan to do the same.

Your form isn't flawless, but you're doing well.
