[ good deda monday morning. she is a little uncertain about them going to the carnival, but she does her best to speed them through the food area at a quick pace. her own emotions are soothing, an attempt to coil around his unease and shoo it all away. while it's not possible to completely boot the terrible feeling out, she will try.
it's fine because she feels that way about the academy at this point. it's a bit of a shame.
still, once they're further towards the rides and games, she will most definitely just take his hand and proceed to swing it excitedly. ]
No kidding you ate all the food you could - and now you can actually get to savor it. [ instead of wondering where your next meal is! ] Hmmmm, what're your favorite games? Show me one? And then maybe we can go on some of the rides... I want to go on the wheel with you...
[ thankfully it's a very quick feeling! rondo is made of rubber, and even being murdered can't bother him for long - it just makes the good things stick out even further. it means he can rewrite those terrible memories (the fighting, being thrown through a couple of stands, the fighting, the fire) and replace them with good ones.
good ones like this. like marina taking his hand, which makes his emotions bloom into surprise and then what is definitely a heart-skipping kind of feeling, followed immediately by happiness. all of the bad, uneasy feelings melt away in the face of the light, as they so often do.
he squeezes her hand gently, in thanks. ]
Well.... [ ..... it's kind of unfortunate.... ] I'm pretty good at the strength game. [ murdered with the strength game mallet kind of but its fine ]
And then - the one where you knock the teeth out of the clown with the ball! Oh, and the water gun one is fun, too - I'm not as good at that one, but it's fun to play. [ it doesn't involve nearly as much Force and he is brute strong ] Miss Asa told me apparently a lot of the games are rigged...? But they're still fun to play, anyway.
Or - if there's a prize you really like, we can try and play that game, too!
[ his gaze follows hers up to the wheel, though, emotions perking with curiosity. that's one of the places that was untainted by last week, so. ]
she feels that blossoming emotion and can't help but just radiate her own. it's an awful lot shier than she belays with her actions, but perhaps it's the sheer fact that she can feel how someone likes her, wants to be around her like this. it's the feeling that they're together again, even if it's somewhere beyond the living. she doesn't care right now. ]
Hmmm, I think I'd like to see that test of your strength and aim, the one with the clown.
[ a little bit of renewed excitement. this wasn't a bad idea then. good. she does come and press closer so she and wrap her other arm around his, they're still holding paws though. she just wants to be close. snake behavior even though she's no longer a snake. ]
Let's go see what the prizes are and I'll tell you if there's one I most desperately require.
[ im glad i predicted this at the beginning of this game. i just want to say that im very proud of me
anyway. last week, one of the very first things rondo said to someone, on friday - when he wasn't crying, at least - was how he didn't get to tell marina something awfully important. they'd left off in that academy library somewhere like "almost", and the thoughts flicker through his mind now that things on this other plane have finally settled down a little. with his own nightmarishly bad weekend officially over, its the dawn of a new week, and the dawn of something new, and... maybe the time for those little things left unsaid is here. he thinks about it when she wraps around his arm, looking down at her, but -
well, he's got a short attention span, so she distracts him from thinking about it too much. instead, his smile warms up as he looks down at her, fondness leaking through the little interaction and all over his face, before he nods, determined. ]
You've got it.
[ off they go! the clown one is a better choice - it does not involve the mallet, and since it's relatively far off, he doesn't seem to mind winding through the aisles of the carnival too much, either. it is strange to see it all put back together like nothing ever happened, and though his back twinges a little in memory when they pass by a stall full of rubber ducks, he leads the way to the baseball stand with a bit of a trot to his step.
the prizes are varied here. lots of stuffed animals - cute cats, dogs, snakes, bears, lions, goats - all kinds of things, some a few feet tall and some just the right size to be hugged. he spent so much time winning prizes for all of his friends last week that he's familiar, and even then... rondo had thought how much he wanted to be able to do this for marina, too. and now, here they are.
it's the little things that make this other side life better, that make life always a little better, and this is one of them.
as he leans over the counter, he plucks up one of the baseballs! look at this thing, it's so creepy. ]
[ there are a lot of things that marina wishes she could have said before dying and leaving rondo. the week was strange, and by nature, marina isn't the type to commit to this sort of thing outright, not without testing the waters first. she can handle rejection lite, but she can't handle a full on rejection without feeling a too-deep sting. so she'd danced around it inside, a call and response that ends in curling up in the library with a book, reading sotto voce.
she smiles and reaches up to point at a very cute lion. yes. ]
That one, I think. He's got hair like you.
[ she knows it will be utterly useless to her... but maybe with a wish, maybe she wouldn't have to leave it behind. maybe she wouldn't have to leave anything behind. her heart jumps a little as he points out the very creepy clowns. she holds out paws for a baseball of her own, yes. ]
... I would love to knock the teeth out of that thing.
[ she grins. ]
Should we give it what for?
[ preening happily, she's radiating delight, a little undercurrent of uncertainty, but not because of rondo, it belays her outwardly displayed confidence. her evaluating nature - step by step, intricate, careful. she doesn't want to fall off the tightrope she's crafted for herself. ]
[ help, cute... the resemblance is there - it makes rondo's emotions go !!, and he laughs, a little sheepishly, reaching up to sproing at one of his curls. do you think so.... is the energy, but - hey, there are much lamer animals to be compared to. he'll take a lion.
with that, though, rondo deposits a baseball in her hands. his hand lingers, briefly, as he gets a read on those emotions - that little undercurrent that remains, he wants to comfort it, reassure it. she's going to do great. just doing something simple like this makes the last of his own bad feelings about this carnival start to melt away. ]
Yes! I think the rules said you get three throws.
[ so three throws to knock out some ugly looking clown teeth. ] Alright. Ready? On the count of three, let's throw.
[ he settles in front of one of the terrible, ugly clown tooth things and winds up with the ball. ]
One... two.... three!
[ looks at my nine. his first throw goes wide - aimed too far off to one side, and it doinks off the clown's head and into another stand, somewhere. there's a clatter as something falls over. ] ... Oops.
[ rondo, in truth, is more of a puppy, but her eyes caught the wild hair first, and she thinks about it, and his heart certainly has that sort of bravery to it. a man can be an amalgam, she decides this and settles in beside him, getting ready. marina lines herself up for a couple of shots, turning the ball in her hand as she tries to fell out the distance and the force. she is just trying to keep her immense focus vibes to herself, but they might radiate off her a lil bit. ]
Three throws... got it.
[ rondo counts them down and she weighs and throws her first ball. looks at my 20.......... somehow she just straight up hits a clown tooth (her rolls then proceed to decline...) she actually looks shocked and the emotion is giddy "i can't believe i hit it" just aaaaaaa. ]

Marina! That was amazing, what a good throw! Definitely prize-worthy!!
[ SHE REALLY SAID FUCK THAT CLOWN that was so cool....! maybe she will be the one winning him a prize after all?! ]
