[ every day this cr continues to embody the shitpost ]
Oh. [ continues to be red... he rubs his face. ] ... Miss Marina is wonderful, and I really enjoy her company. I think she's brave, and smart, and really, really pretty. But, I've... um, never really thought about anything like that before... this morning?
So I don't... know. [ princess, baby, etc. he needs time. ] I think it was just... whatever's....happening this week... but it was my first kiss. So...
[ He looks a little distant at that, eye affixed to some blank spot in the shelves. ]
Oh... I don't know. I was always charmed by Elise the moment I first saw her when we were both still kids. I loved her, and I still do, of course... but it's hard to draw a clear line between a precocious crush and when it crosses that into something more. She was always too bright for me. I must've envied it to some degree, if she hadn't willingly pulled me along to her side.
I always felt like whatever she'd want to ask of me, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
[ ah... something about that makes him smile a little further - he tucks his cheek into his arm, smiling, though it's gentle. maybe a little sad in his right, too. it's funny, how much of an impact someone can have on you, when you're that age... and knowing a little bit of daan's story already, it feels so bittersweet. ]
I think I get that. [ wanting to just do anything that person asked. ] Maybe she liked that balance, too.
Haha. No, not quite - well, maybe a little, but...
I don't know if I've told many people about it, since I'm not really associated with them anymore, but... protection sort of runs in our blood.
[ sometimes you give up your house name. but! storytime!! ]
The story goes that centuries ago, my ancestor served alongside the Great King Beowulf of Hornburg as a brother in arms. Along with a few others, they sealed the Gate of Finis - the gate to Hell - using powerful relics known as the dragonstones. Once the Gate was sealed and the battle was won, the King entrusted my ancestor with protecting and guarding these treasures of the continent so they may not fall into evil hands. Over time, we ended up guarding more and more of similar objects, though the dragonstones were the most precious of all. The heirlooms and treasures of the continent were kept safe in the Ravus vault, no matter what enemies or fiends would come to try to take them.
To be a Ravus means to be a protector. And though I am no longer of my house, the lessons of it have never left me.
...I've never chosen to believe in the importance of blood and how it shapes a person. People put too much worth in it... people's origins. Where they came from, and not where they are now.
Of course. If it's what you want, it's a different story.
But it's nicer to believe it's because of your choice, and not because your blood dictated it to be an inevitable fate.
Well - it's less like blood, but, maybe it's more like the lessons I was taught.
[ with a little laugh. ]
My father was a very wise man. And... I do like to think what strength I have earned was strength I was not born to! At least, now. I've worked pretty hard to be able to protect everyone that I can.

I think you could make a lovely pair if you wished to pursue it, Rondo. Just make sure you can keep up.

[ So not childhood friends. He's quiet on the thing about balance, mashing down complicated feelings. It is what it is. ]

[ a butler's assistant... our daan...
rondo will take the chance to make a little joke - to lighten the mood a little. ]
I hope Heathcote doesn't have an assistant that's gone and swept my sister off of her feet.

[ Not like this. ]

So... I guess as long as she's happy, that'd be okay.
