[ in general, rondo's a pretty emotional guy - he's never been ashamed of his emotions, never been afraid of them, but this is something different. this is just a hammer of loss and sorrow all at once, a crushing, painful reminder of their situation, and it takes him a long, long moment to look up.

as expected, tears are running down his cheeks - his eyes are red and he looks like a mess, completely vulnerable. completely wrecked. the blue-too-eerie glow from the swamp, from his injuries, is so, so bright. ]

Vin. [ he manages, voice raw, and reaches up to try and just - rub a hand across his eyes. ] S...sorry. Is... do you need...

I don't need anything.

[quickly moving past whatever he was about to offer, reaching out to wipe at his tears with her sleeve.]

...What about you?

[ good because he had no idea what he was going to offer. he just kind of leans forward when she wipes his face, just desperately sad and in need of the physical contact. what does he need?

... ]

I don't know. [ he says, in a voice that's uncharacteristically tiny. ] I really.. I don't know.

[noooooo

after a moment - well, they're already close, so she pulls him into a hug.]

[ NOOOO okay well, listen. he's trying to keep himself together at least a little - vin can feel the way he takes a shaky, pained breath inwards, partially from aching ribs and partially from just feeling hollowed out, as he curls into the hug. he's shaking, more obviously like this, and he just lifts his hands and hugs her back.

awful. just. devastating. there's no better word for it. ]

[she can't really bring herself to say it's alright, or even that he will be. instead, she's quiet for a moment before she echoes something he's told her before.]

I've got you.

[ okay well he just

bursts into tears, for real! i have to repeat icons bc this is the most devastated rondo i have!!!! but he does, now, actually burst into tears, letting out a tiny sob, and clings onto her tighter in the hug. ]

[it's times like this that she wishes she was better at this kind of comfort - that she had memories of her family, especially her mother, that weren't soaked with blood. when she shifts her hand to his back in what's supposed to be a comforting gesture, it seems awkward and stilted even to her.

regardless, she reaches up carefully to try and dry some of his tears with her other hand.]

[ oh, but it helps? it helps so much. it doesn't matter if it's awkward or stilted, it's what he needs so badly, right now. it's a chance to just let himself go, to let that big, overly emotional baby heart of his explode into how upset he is. cloud, aerith, iwatooshi - all such deeply, deeply dear people to rondo.

he ends up leaning into the way she dries his tears, eyes wet and watering as the sobs start to peter out, finally, and just shakes his head. there are no words, there's just nothing to say beyond complete and utter heartbreak, wrung out like a towel. ]

[she'll stay silent as long as he needs, content to give him the space and time he needs. he doesn't have to say anything, and she doesn't feel like she needs to, either.]
